Market Property, a fixture on Coldharbour Lane for 8 yrs – and a making with a history as a consuming establishment – is to reopen as an Indian diner.

But the ingesting connection will not be lost.

Bringing the new institution, Karakana, to lifetime will be Jez Galaun and Mike Ross, two of the founders of Brixton Brewery.

They are joined in the venture by executive chef Rivaaj Maharaj, and Tim Anderson, Masterchef winner and creator of Japanese restaurant Nanban, just throughout the street.

After closing through lockdown, the group that ran Sector Dwelling say they workshopped ideas for this historic Brixton constructing and arrived up with Karakana, an Indian diner influenced by the “curry & a pint” traditions of the United kingdom.

It will give “an attractive twist on Indian dishes that pair properly with a chilly beer”. Cocktail fans will not be neglected, while.

Karakana is Hindi for “workshop” and, say the team, “this name represents the difficult work and creative process that went into the building of this enjoyable new venue”.

Karakan opens this month at 443 Coldharbour Lane, SW9 8LN.
